Photography is my zen.   It deepens my appreciation of life.  It stills the noise.   It is an awakening.  For me, the act of making photographs nurtures a discipline to seek and to see in new ways—with sharper eyes, with heightened perception, with deeper meaning.  The choice of subject, the transformative powers of shadow and light, color, composition, form, texture, and pattern, all play a role in creating a compelling photograph.  But it goes much deeper than that.  It contextualizes through a single frame things more difficult to grasp in the accelerated motion of time.

The images we're drawn to often say much about who we are and what we value.  In an increasingly complex and fragmented world, photography possesses the ability to draw us together.  It's a universal language—yet still feels personal to both the creator and the viewer.

My hope is that some of these images make you 'feel' something—wonderment, awe, surprise, delight, awakening, yearning, amusement, connectivity, empathy, nostalgia.   I lay no claim that the images within achieve the high degree of brilliance of the photographers I most admire.   But I know when I see something that leaves me awestruck, I'm driven to capture it and reveal the joy sparked inside. My heart pounds faster and I feel more alive snapping the shutter knowing I am bringing back something worthy of sharing with others.

When I reflect on the forces that shaped me I think about my parents.  My father was a highly skilled hunter and my mother, a gifted fine artist.  In some ways, I guess, I am somewhat of a hybrid of the two—seeking, tracking, shooting like the hunter and drawing on the sensibility and instincts of the artist.  So I dedicate my work and this website to them.

My interest in photography developed from an early age when the issues of National Geographic and Sports Illustrated magazine would arrive on my doorstep.   The pictures transported me to worlds unknown and captured the excitement of the perfect moment.   Later, I bought my first film camera, a Leica body and three gorgeous Leica lenses.  The kit soon became my constant companion.   I began to learn the technical basics, followed my instincts and honed my skills, learning how to 'see'.   Today I work with a Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon 'L' series lenses and appreciate the freedom and versatility that digital affords.

During the week I work in the medium of video, crafting business communications for McKinsey & Company, the world's leading management consultancy.   On weekends, I am blessed to spend most of my spare time with my lovely wife and son.   In addition to photography, I also pursue the passion of guitar playing with my bands Jam Chowder and The Better Half (which I have named after my wife!).  The music ranges from old school rock, blues, soul, Americana, and a bit of N'awlins.   It's all just another way to express myself and clear my head to the ideal state of nothingness.

Thank you for visiting and viewing my photography!
